Reds are born with nothing and as a result are relegated to the slums of the Stilts where they train to work for their superiors. When an accident causes Mare Barrow to fall into the duelling field the Royal Silvers are shocked to discover she has a power of her own. This book had me swiftly flicking pages, eager to find out what would happen next. The love story intertwined is not too over the top and it is always great to read a powerful female protagonist. The story is unusual and refreshing for young adult fantasy lovers.
